SAFETY & PROP 65

What is California Proposition 65?

Proposition 65, known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, was enacted in California in 1986. This Act requires that anyone in the course of doing business who exposes an individual to a chemical “known to the State” to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity must first give a “clear and reasonable” warning. Currently over 740 chemicals are listed by the State of California as known carcinogens or reproductive toxins, and lead is one such chemical.

How does Prop 65 relate to Sand Carved Decorated Glass?

Etching does not add any materials or chemicals to the glass, it carves into the glass by way of compressed air and different types of medium.  Prop 65 warnings do not apply to items that are etched.

Another thing to point out…

Because we don’t add glaze or inks to the item we are not bound to having the decoration area 22 mm outside the rim of drinkware.  So.  Depending on your project we are able to maximize the decoration area.
